Who We Are
SEEC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing customized, community-based supports to help individuals with developmental disabilities direct their lives with dignity, choice, authority and responsiblity to acheive lives reflective of their desires. People we support face the challenges of intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and other disorders requiring support for daily living. SEEC staff provide assistance to help each person direct the course of his or her services towards attainment of personal goals for a well rounded life including, employment, education, leisure activities, good health, and friendships. All services are provided in the community and are individualized to meet each persons unique needs, desires and aspirations.
SEEC is comprised of more than 180 full- and part-time dedicated professionals supporting more than 200 men and women and more than 60 families of children with developmental disabilities each year throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. Our volunteer Board of Directors consists of family members of those we support, at least one individual receiving our services, and members of the greater community.
What We Believe
At SEEC we believe that people want to live in a home that they choose, benefit from work that is valued, develop through continuos learning, and thrive in communities of family and friends.
It is the responsibility of professionals, families, and friends to advocate for and help people with disabilities to seek out a life of quality and substance. We believe each person is the focal point on which supports and opportunities are created as a highly preferred alternative to “one size fits all” programming. We believe that community inclusion gives people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to show their abilities, develop new interests and talents, contribute to our workforce, and gain a sense of belonging. Their presence in all aspects of our community life changes public perception of people with disabilities from “needy” to “able” and promotes the realization of our commonality.
Our goal is to ensure that people's lives reflect the choices they make.
What We Do
SEEC offers a variety of programs to help Montgomery County residents who have significant disabilities become involved and valued members of our community. Supports for community inclusion are provided Community Living residential supports, Vocational and Community Learning day supports, Project SEARCH internships for transitioning youth, and Parent to Parent mentoring for famlies who have children with developmental disablities. Supports and services are individualized to meet each person's unique goals and are delivered solely in the community.
